Q & A with Featured Top Realtor, Amanda Corral
4 min read How did you get started in the Real Estate industry?
It really happened by default. Never was it in my plan. At one point during my childhood, my mother was an agent. I remember going to her office and hanging out there, visiting properties and such. She was more heavy into working with investors. But never did I imagine I would go this route. I have been an artist most of my life. I was into music and entertainment since I was 12 years old and to be honest with you that was my passion and all I really knew. Of course, I had odd jobs here and there, but music was my true calling. After my split with my daughter’s father I had to figure out my next moves and the life of an artist is very demanding. It wasn’t something I could really entertain in my situation. I needed to be with my daughter as much as possible and being on the road, in night clubs, and in recording studios would take me away from her far too much. I had to make a decision. My mom suggested I get my license and so I did. My first deal was pretty impressive and I think it set the tone for my career. It’s been a great field for me, very natural. I’m a people’s person. I always say I’m not in the real estate business. I’m in the people business.
What is your motivation and why?
My motivation is making sure my daughter Mikaela has options in life. I want to make sure she knows that as a minority woman you can accomplish anything on your own. You don’t need anything or anyone to feed you. If you can dream it and you want it, you can make it happen. I also am very determined to show other people that you can come from anywhere, go through anything and still overcome those things and have a success story. I feel like motivating people to reach high is a calling of mine.
What separates you from your competition? I am wired differently. I’m an artist by nature. I see and feel things differently. This helps me connect with my clients and their needs and goals. I’m also highly intuitive and creative so it helps me with marketing. I’m known for marketing and I believe this comes from my background in music and entertainment.
How has this virus pandemic affected your industry, how did you adjust to it? The first month or so my phone was dry! Nobody was making moves! The entire world was on pause because of the uncertainty we were living. I was scared to be honest. However, once people began adapting to the situation the phone started ringing again and we have been doing well. It’s been a little more cyclical than normal with some highs and lows, but overall the market remained steady and is now very strong in Houston. We are experiencing a housing shortage in some price points and it’s causing multiple offers situations and driving prices up! If you want to buy or sell now is the time! Interest rates are at an all-time low for buyers. There are many programs available for first-time buyer’s to get down payment assistant as well. Again, the market in Houston is strong! We are a very resilient city!
What are you working on for the near future in 2021?
I don’t like to disclose my plans too far in advance, but I can say that I have some great new ventures outside of real estate that I am working on one of them being expanding the Amanda Corral brand in a major way. It’s an exciting time in my career. I feel strong and motivated. It’s going to be a great year! In terms of real estate, I will be launching a program for new agents that will give them the ability to learn from me. I will also be increasing my portfolio with more investment properties.
What does family mean to Amanda Corral?
Family isn’t a thing. It’s everything. Family isn’t always just blood tho, it’s whoever loves you and takes care of you in the good and the bad. I love really hard and everyone knows I am the person who takes care of everyone. It’s my maternal instinct. I love my family and friends so very much. It’s absolutely necessary that you have a good support system. I’m thankful for my people every day and make sure they know it.
